Role Focus
Every seat in AutoCISO sees the same data their role and plan allow. What differs is what a CTO needs to see first versus what a Compliance officer or a CEO needs to see first. Role focus lets each person pick the job they do — CTO, Security lead / CISO, CEO / Founder, Head of Operations / COO, Compliance officer, CIO / IT Director, or Data Protection Officer — and tailors their home screen, menu order and guided tour to that job.
Before you start
- Role focus is available to every seat, on every plan.
- It’s a personal setting. Each person in your organization chooses their own; it doesn’t change what anyone else sees.
- If you don’t choose one, the Dashboard opens on the classic Statistics tab.
Choose a role focus the first time you sign in
The first time you open the Dashboard, a card appears: “Tailor this console to your job.”
- Pick the card that matches what you do — for example CTO / VP Engineering, Compliance officer, or CEO / Founder. Each card shows a one-line description of what that home focuses on. A card may carry a small tag, such as Best on The Scale (the home works best on that plan) or Limited for your role (some of what it shows is not visible to your organization role).
- If none of the roles fit, choose the last option, “Keep the Statistics dashboard” — the dashboard you already know, unchanged.
- Click Save and show my home.
If you’re not ready to decide, click Not now. The card closes and AutoCISO keeps you on the Statistics dashboard; you can tailor your home at any time from your profile menu (below).
Change your role focus any time
- Open your user menu (your name/avatar in the sidebar).
- Click My role focus — it shows your current choice, or Not set.
- Pick a different role (or Keep the Statistics dashboard) and click Save and show my home.
You can also change it from the Dashboard itself: while viewing My home, click Tailor my home in the page header — it opens the same picker.
The role options
| Role focus | Shows first |
|---|---|
| CTO / VP Engineering | Who still has access to what, and what to revoke |
| Security lead / CISO | Programme status, top risks, and decisions pending |
| CEO / Founder | Are we OK, what it could cost, what needs my decision |
| Head of Operations / COO | Audit readiness, owners, and what is overdue |
| Compliance officer | Framework status, SoA, policies, and audit dates |
| CIO / IT Director | Apps, assets, suppliers, and supply-chain exposure |
| Data Protection Officer | Record of processing, DPIAs, and processors |
| Keep the Statistics dashboard | Every metric on one page |
What you get on “My home”
Once you’ve chosen a role (other than “Keep the Statistics dashboard”), the Dashboard gains a new tab, My home, next to Statistics, Executive and Security Surface. It opens by default and its subtitle reads “Tailored for {your role}.” My home is a set of tiles built from data you can already see elsewhere in AutoCISO — nothing new is collected or computed for it.
- If some of what a role’s home would normally show isn’t available to you — because it’s not on your plan, or not part of your organization role — you’ll see a short banner explaining why, for example “Privacy operations is on The Scale” or “ISO 27001 is on The Growth”, with a link back to the classic Statistics dashboard. A tile that’s locked by plan shows “Unlock {n} more with {tier}” instead of being hidden outright.
- The sidebar reorders its menu groups so the ones your role uses most come first, and highlights the single group most relevant to your focus. Nothing is added, removed, or hidden from the menu — only the order and the highlight change.
Take the guided tour
The first time you save a role focus, AutoCISO offers a one-minute walkthrough of your new home: “Want a one-minute tour of your new home?” with a Start tour button. The tour has up to five stops, tailored to your role and skipped for anything your plan or organization role doesn’t give you access to.
You can replay it later from your user menu: Replay tour under the Help section plays the tour for your current role focus.
Notifications open on the tab that matters to your role
Opening Notifications defaults to a different tab depending on your role focus — this only changes which tab is selected when you arrive; nothing about which notifications exist or who can see them changes.
| Default tab | Role focus |
|---|---|
| Critical | CTO, Security lead / CISO, CEO / Founder |
| Unread | Head of Operations / COO, Compliance officer, CIO / IT Director, Data Protection Officer |
| All (unchanged) | Keep the Statistics dashboard, or no role chosen yet |
Ask the AI CISO
My home includes an Ask the AI CISO card with two starter questions written for your role focus — for example a CTO sees “Who left the company but still has access?” Clicking a starter question opens AI CISO Assistant with that question already typed into the chat box — it is never sent automatically, so you can edit it first. The assistant’s answers also take your role focus into account when you ask your own questions, the same way the rest of your home does — it doesn’t change what data the assistant can reach, only how it frames the answer for the job you picked.
If new role homes ship later
AutoCISO adds new role homes over time. If you kept the Statistics dashboard (or skipped the picker) before a new batch of roles shipped, you’ll see the card again once: “New role homes are available.” Choosing a role works the same as the first time; clicking “Keep the Statistics dashboard” dismisses it for good.
